Dear Brother Malakh,
I am honored by your response,
I will start where you do;

{I think that Yusufali's translation best exemplifies what you are trying to say -that is, Yusufali has inserted (in the gloom of) to show that black is more a condition of the soul (though why say 'face'?) rather than the actual look of the skin.}

If we refer to the "Translation" of the Koran by Yusuf Ali, on pg.172, rf#432 it is clearly explained:

"The "face" (wajh) expresses our Personality, our inmost being. white is the color of Light; to become white is to be illumined with Light, which stands for felicity, the rays of the glorious light of Allah.

Black is the color of darkness, sin, rebellion, misery; removal from the grace and light of Allah. These are the signs of heaven and hell. The standard of decision in all questions is the justice of Allah."

for example; Matthew 17:2 "There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light."

Revelation 1:16 In his right hand he held seven stars, and out of his mouth came a sharp double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.

Revelation 10:1 "Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven. He was robed in a cloud, with a rainbow above his head; his face was like the sun, and his legs were like fiery pillars." etc...

Or for the oppisite Jeremiah 3:12 "Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith Jehovah: I will not make my face dark upon you; for I am merciful, saith Jehovah; I will not keep [anger] for ever."Darby.

There is a translation by the Azhar, the oldest Islamic University, it is called "Al Montakhab", it goes into detail within the verse, it translates Verse 3:106 as follows:

"This shall be on the Day when countenances shall speak different languages; some being effulgent with splendour and bright light, beaming with Joy and hope and others being dark, bilious and gloomy.

Rebuked for want of faith, they shall be told: How could you deny God after you have recognized Him. You have well deserved to be put to the torment in requital of infidelity"

The rest of your post takes media claims as facts. I do not know where your from, but where I am from, when something gets blown up, the media says it was Muslims, months later after the slander has been smeared, it is then discovered that it was not a Muslim (i.e. Oklahoma Building and T.W.A flight 800) the media is clearly anti-Islamic, some say they are responsible for the Bosnia war, http://www.paranoia.com/~wcs/okcity.htm

I will be happy to answer any concerns the best I can, I take it that you do not have a copy of the Koran and prehaps getting your info from an anti-Muslim site, thats O.K. because all of the misconceptions can be clarified by research. A free translation can be picked up at your local Mosque.

Peace and Blessings,
Your Brother in Islam: Mohamed
