Dear Leesa,
I was amazed at the quality and depth of your response. It was sure one of
the best Muslim articles I have ever seen in regard to understanding the
Bible. Are you from a Christian background or have you learned to read
the Bible and understand it in this way even though you were brought up as
a Muslim?
I think you would be a great addition to our Muslim/Christian dialog mailing
list. It would be nice to dialog more with people who have already some
understanding. Have a look at the archive.
I could hardly have given a better response to Mohamed than you did.
I agree with you about 90% [obviously not in everything, since I don't
agree with the Qur'an, but as far as your statements about the Bible go,
you have explained very well indeed].
So, let me just add a few things, complementing, not contradicting
you exposition.
From here on, it is really more a response to Mohamed than to you,
since I don't think you will be too surprised at these verses.
So, let me close with:
Peace to you Leesa, may the Lord bless you.
Jochen
Mohamed, now to you:
: : {Exo. 31:17} "For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth
: : and on the seventh day he Rested, and was Refreshed."
: : {Koran 50:38} "We created the heavens and the earth
: : and all between them in six days, nor did any sense of weariness touch us."
: : The question to Christians is simple, do you choose as a Protector,
: : "a God that needs to Rest", or a "God that does Not need Rest".
Where does it say anywhere that God NEEDED rest? It says he rested - and the
Hebrew word just means "ceased from working" (from the work of creation -
obviously he continues to uphold all creation and nothing would be alive if
God were to withdraw).
But your misunderstanding is based on seeking for verses you can twist,
instead of reading all of God's revelation. Here some Mohamed seems to have
missed:
Isaiah 40:25-30
Another passage is in Psalm 121
Basically, Muhammad only listened well to the Jews in Mecca and Medina.
That God isn't tired and that God doesn't sleep was well known long
before Muhammad. The Qur'an is bringing nothing new in this respect.
And similar quotations could be given for the rest of these "differences"
between Bible and Qur'an. But I will leave it to Mohamed to find the
passages. He is in need to read for himself and search out the word of God.
It is not good to spoonfeed everything.
: : {Heb. 5:5} "God said to Jesus,'You are my son today I have begotten you"
Ah, one comment here though. In regard to WHAT point in time does
this verse refer? Look it up. Be surprised. It refers to the resurrection.
And Psalm 2:7 is a coronation psalm. Because his resurrection / ascension is
the time when Jesus returns to his kingly power.
Obviously, this "begetting" has absolutely nothing to do with his
birth, Jesus was 33 years old at his death and resurrection. And David also
became king not at the time when he was physically begotten.
: : Do you Christians believe in a God that "Sires" children {i.e. David and Jesus},
No. And I hope that is not too great a disappointment, even though it takes away
one of your most dear points of ridicule.
: : Peace and Blessings,
: : Your Bother in Islam: Mohamed.
This is something I don't understand. How can you attack the holy word of God
and then sign with "peace and blessings" and with "your brother"?
I find this quite hypocritical. Or otherwise:
Who needs enemies when he has a brother like you?
