Howard: Well-put, Mohamad. We Christians and Muslims should agree that we should treat all people with fairness and respect. That is why I was concerned that you seemed to be libeling an entire people--the Copts--who as a minority in Egypt are in a vulnerable position.

Dear Brother Mohamad: I don't want to seem to be ganging up on you. I appreciate your zeal to address the issues on this list, and even your dialogue with our Holy Father, John Paul II. All I request, as you say, is that we don't speak badly of entire groups of people--including "Copts," and other Christian and Muslim minorities. This century has seen enough hatred of people because of their ethnicity or religion. Let's take a cue from the beautiful document released by the Vatican yesterday calling for repentance for the Nazi killing of the Jews and speak of all people with the love that they deserve.
