The government does not know who represents Muslims in Britain. They had been using the ‘Muslim Council of Britain’ (MCB) for that role, but no longer, since the MCB are not following the government’s line on certain issues (holocaust memorial, Iraq, and policing, etc…). This will always be a difficulty, since Muslims cannot separate the ‘Mosque from the State’, and therefore make every secular problem a personal religious one, a dilemma Christianity does not have.
