Peace between Jordan and Israel in the end Times
Modern Jordan is comprised of the ancient countries of Edom, Moab and Ammon. It was southern Jordan that the ancient prophets were concerned about. Several Bible passages state that peace between Israel and Jordan will come by means of Destruction.
Ezekiel 35:6-9:
35:6therefore, as I live, says the Lord Yahweh, I will prepare you to blood, and blood shall pursue you: since you have not hated blood, therefore blood shall pursue you. 35:7Thus will I make Mount Seir an astonishment and a desolation; and I will cut off from it him who passes through and him who returns. 35:8I will fill its mountains with its slain: in your hills and in your valleys and in all your watercourses shall they fall who are slain with the sword. 35:9I will make you a perpetual desolation, and your cities shall not be inhabited; and you shall know that I am Yahweh.
The picture is one of massive destruction with blood and dead bodies filling the mountains, hills and valleys (verse 6-8), resulting in Edom becoming a perpetual desolation (verse 9).
Jeremiah 49:7-13 states:
49:7Of Edom. Thus says Yahweh of Hosts: Is wisdom no more in Teman? is counsel perished from the prudent? is their wisdom vanished? 49:8Flee you, turn back, dwell in the depths, inhabitants of Dedan; for I will bring the calamity of Esau on him, the time that I shall visit him. 49:9If grape-gatherers came to you, would they not leave some gleaning grapes? if thieves by night, wouldn't they destroy until they had enough? 49:10But I have made Esau bare, I have uncovered his secret places, and he shall not be able to hide himself: his seed is destroyed, and his brothers, and his neighbors; and he is no more. 49:11Leave your fatherless children, I will preserve them alive; and let your widows trust in me. 49:12For thus says Yahweh: Behold, they to whom it didn't pertain to drink of the cup shall assuredly drink; and are you he who shall altogether go unpunished? you shall not go unpunished, but you shall surely drink. 49:13For I have sworn by myself, says Yahweh, that Bozrah shall become an astonishment, a reproach, a waste, and a curse; and all the cities of it shall be perpetual wastes.
The emphasis of Jeremiah is on the totality of the destruction of the land of Edom so as to leave nothing remaining of the seed of Esau (verses 7-10). Edom had been given an opportunity to trust in the Lord but failed to respond (verse 11). So now the cup of inequity is full, and Edom must drink of the cup of God's wrath (verse 12), resulting in the land of Edom becoming nothing but an astonishment, a reproach, a waste, and a curse (verse 13). To all this, Jeremiah later adds in Jeremiah 49:19-20.
49:19Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the pride of the Jordan against the strong habitation: for I will suddenly make them run away from it; and whoever is chosen, him will I appoint over it: for who is like me? and who will appoint me a time? and who is the shepherd who will stand before me? 49:20Therefore hear the counsel of Yahweh, that he has taken against Edom; and his purposes, that he has purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely they shall drag them away, even the little ones of the flock; surely he shall make their habitation desolate over them.
Once again there is emphasis on the totality of the destruction with the addition that this final desolation and destruction of Edom will come by means of a war and an armed military conflict.
Even the book of Obadiah, states on the destruction of Edom verses 5-9.
1:5If thieves came to you, if robbers by night -- oh, what disaster awaits you -- wouldn't they only steal until they had enough? If grape pickers came to you, wouldn't they leave some gleaning grapes? 1:6How Esau will be ransacked! How his hidden treasures are sought out! 1:7All the men of your alliance have brought you on your way, even to the border. The men who were at peace with you have deceived you, and prevailed against you. Friends who eat your bread lay a snare under you. There is no understanding in him.
1:8"Won't I in that day," says Yahweh, "destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mountain of Esau? 1:9Your mighty men, Teman, will be dismayed, to the end that everyone may be cut off from the mountain of Esau by slaughter.
This destruction will come by the means of children of Israel in Obadiah verse 18. This destruction will be so total that nothing will remain of Esau's descendants, while the descendants of brother Jacob will own and possess the mountains of Edom. It is out of Mount Zion that judgment will fall on Edom.
So Edom, or present day southern Jordan, is to suffer desolation, and the destruction of all descendants of Esau will come by means of the people of Israel. Only via total destruction will peace come between Israel and southern Jordan
AS for Moab, present day central Jordan, it too will suffer destruction (Jeremiah 48:1-46), but it will not be total. A remnant of Moab will return according to Jeremiah 48:47.
48:47Yet will I bring back the captivity of Moab in the latter days, says Yahweh. Thus far is the judgment of Moab.
Concerning Ammon, or modern northern Jordan, it will also suffer destruction and become a possession of Israel in Jeremiah 49:1-2.
49:1Of the children of Ammon. Thus says Yahweh: Has Israel no sons? has he no heir? why then does Malcam possess Gad, and his people well in the cities of it? 49:2Therefore, behold, the days come, says Yahweh, that I will cause an alarm of war to be heard against Rabbah of the children of Ammon; and it shall become a desolate heap, and her daughters shall be burned with fire: then shall Israel possess those who did possess him, says Yahweh.
To summarize, peace will come between Israel and the three parts of Jordan by means of destruction but not all to the same degree. In the case of Edom or southern Jordan, the destruction will be total, and there will not be a nation of Edom in the kingdom. The Edomites are descendants of Esau, the twin brother of Jacob. In the destruction will be partial. there will be a Moab and Ammon in the kingdom, with both subservient to Israel. Both these nations are descendants of Lot, the nephew of Abraham.
